Key Briefing
Young carers and families are experts on their own lives. It falls to professionals across all sectors to include them in shaping the personalised and integrated responses that best suit their needs. This means taking account of their hopes, aspirations, strengths and achievements and the need for advice and support for all the family. Continued caring by children and supporting others in a family can be an appropriate part of this where this does not have an adverse affect on well-being.
It is important to ensure young carers are empowered to be involved in this process, a good way to enable young carers involvement is to set up a Forum which brings together young carers to raise awareness, get involved in consultations and link into local professional steering and strategic groups for young carers.
